Winter has come at last! But don’t panic, put on your caps and scarves and go out to enjoy your cold nights with our tips.
Let’s start, as usual, from Milan, where – for the prose – Alice Underground makes its national debut from December 3 to 31 at Elfo Puccini (directed by Ferdinando Bruni e Francesco Frongia).
An excellent example of experimentation is on stage at Teatro della Contraddizione with The variable K from Franz Kafka by Marco Maria Linzi (from December 6 to 9, from 13 to 16 from 20 to 23), while at Out Off continues up to December 23 August Strindber’s Il padre (The father), directed by the young talent Alberto Oliva.
In Rome, the theatre Argot Studio presents, from December 4 to 16, Maternity Blues (From Medea), a performance based on a Grazia Verasani’s novel. The director and protagonist is Elena Arvigo, who will be even the main character of the next play on stage at Argot, Sarah Kane’s 4:48 psychosis, directed by Valentina Calvani (from December 18 to 23). Tradition is on stage at Teatro Argentina, with Carlo Goldoni’s Servant of Two Masters, with the direction of Giorgio Strehler put on by Ferruccio Soleri (from December 4 to 16) and La Cantata dei pastori (Shepherds’Song), loosely based on the Andrea Perrucci’s work, with Peppe Barra and Paolo Memoli (from December 18 to 22).
Let’s move to Tuscany, where we signal in Lucca at Giglio the Macbeth, performed by the excellent Giuseppe Battiston (December 13, 14 and 15), while from January 11 to 13 Bertolt Brecht’sThe resistible rise of Arturo Ui is on stage with the great Umberto Orsini.
Finally, we suggest on December 15 at Sala Ademollo di Palazzo Ducale, Their sound is gone out into all lands, a Christmas concert played by the Semperconsort, an early music ensemble playing Italian and European music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
In Turin, for the ballet, Fondazione Teatro Piemonte Europa for Palcoscenico Danza presents the inaugural event with two international dance companies: Balletto dell’Esperia and Balletto Teatro di Torino (at Astra December 13 and 14).
For art and photography, we signal the opening of the following exhibitions in Milan: Sola Busca Tarot at Pinacoteca di Brera; Divisionismo, from Segantini to Pellizza at GAM Manzoni; The factory and the city with Gabriele Basilico’s photographies and Domenica Regazzoni’s paintings at Galleria Belevedere; Angiolo D’Andrea 1880-1942. From Symbolism to the 18th Century at Palazzo Morando; Dante. 100 artists for 100 Cantos of the Divine Comedy. Inferno at Biblioteca di Palazzo Isimbardi. At Museo del Fumetto we recommend two great ehibitions: the one dedicated to Richard Wagner, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 200 years from his birth, and the other one dedicated to the eighty years of the magazine Topolino (Mickey Mouse); Angel Otero & Joshua Abelow at Brand New Gallery; Dracula and the myth of vampires and Kama Sex and Design at Triennale and, last but not least, David Chipperfield at SpazioFMG.
It is also still possible to visit, among others: the fifth outfitting of the Triennale Design Museum dedicated to Italan Design and Picasso at Palazzo Reale; Paul Klee and Italy in Rome; Boldini, Previati and De Pisis. Two centuries of great art in Ferrara; Renoir. La vie en peinture in Pavia; Degas. Masterpieces from Musée d’Orsay in Turin; Wassily Kandinsky from Russia to Europe in Pisa.
Finally we want to signal the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival, which this year will occur from December 28 to January 1st in the village of Orvieto, with international artist including Tomeka Rey, Dee Alexander and Nicole Mitchie.
